Neolth's Student Mental Health Ambassador program is honored to host a community of almost 100 student leaders from around the world. In thanks for their hard work during the Fall 2022 semester, we're featuring a few of our most dedicated Ambassadors.
Meet Burgundy Walters (she/her), a graduate student at Kent State University studying Biological Sciences - Neuroscience. She was a Lead Student Mental Health Ambassador and Community Engagement Intern at Neolth during the Fall 2022 semester. Her leadership and vulnerability have set her apart as one of our most accomplished student leaders.
Burgundy hopes to pursue a career in neuroscience research, primarily focusing on sleep and migraine disorders. With a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Mississippi State University, she's worked with Neolth to expand her understanding of mental health and the neuroscience behind our platform. In addition to her work at Neolth, she spent her four years at Mississippi State as a dedicated student athlete on the Women's Volleyball team. Burgundy shared her experiences and struggles with mental health while being a student-athlete on our blog forum and the Neolth app!
She joined Neolth's Ambassador Program because she wanted to broaden her skills as a leader while actively being a part of the conversation about mental health. She created and led the Self-Love subcommittee, creating a social media campaign to encourage students to learn to love themselves unconditionally.
We asked her about the most pressing mental health issues for students and why she's passionate about solving these issues, to which she responded: Eating disorders, anxiety, and depression are some of the most common mental health issues she's seen as a student. In fact, one of her blogs on the Neolth app focuses on body image and eating behaviors from the perspective of a student-athlete! She believes it is our jobs as humans to simply be happy. Without appreciating and loving ourselves, we cannot love one another.
When asked about her experience at Neolth and if she had any advice for students, she said:
"If I could give students one piece of advice it would be to take a breath and look at each day as a chance to get 1% closer to loving yourself unconditionally! Don't be afraid to try new things, you never know what you might like. Thank you, especially to Khrystina, for allowing me to develop as a person and a leader. The mentorship and acceptance of Neolth is unmatched!"
Thank you, Burgundy, for all that you do for Neolth and for students everywhere!
