October 10th is #worldmentalhealthday. The Neolth team stands together to emphasize the importance of mental health and well-being not just today, but everyday. In a world that is constantly evolving, where the demands of life can seem overwhelming, it is crucial to prioritize our mental health. Today we honor the compassion given by our supporters and the progress we’ve made as a community in breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. Thank you to our team members who work tirelessly every day to ensure students have access to mental health services! Here's what a few of them have to say about mental health:
Katherine, CEO & Co-founder of Neolth
“Neolth's intention was to be a self-guided mobile app, and it does a couple different things. There is a lot of educational content about mental health, because we know that teens are going on their phones. They are searching up social media, so we want Neolth to be a place where they can search and get their questions answered. There is a lot of stigma reduction, so there's people sharing their experience with mental health. We know how important that is and makes people feel less alone. And then there are a lot of different life skills, built by therapists, so that they can build better emotional awareness, better communication skills, healthy relationships, etc. Neolth is meant to be a self-guided journey.”
Khrystina, Outreach and Engagement Specialist at Neolth
“Mental health has greatly impacted my life for as long as I can remember. I've lost and nearly lost many close family members and friends to suicide, and have seen the impacts of untreated mental illness firsthand. Mental health is important to me because it means saving the people I love the most. It's about ensuring safety, joy, and love. This photo includes some of those people <3. Having adequate access to mental health services can literally save lives, and that's why I love Neolth's mission so much. Things will get better if we talk about mental health, increase access to services, and prioritize prevention.”
Alex, Outreach & Engagement / Editorial Intern at Neolth
“I love being a part of the Neolth Team. I have had my fair share of struggles with mental health, to the point where it took complete control over my life. I have a deep passion for being a participant in the mental health care field. To help or inspire even just one other person on their journey with mental health would make all the hardships I faced on my journey more than worth it. Self-care has been a huge part of my journey towards healing. My favorite self-care practice is going to the beach. This picture was taken by one of my friends as we hiked to a beach in Santa Cruz!”
Sarah, Student Ambassador at Neolth
"Mental health is how we take care of our long-term selves. We need to be aware of how we are feeling and be in tune with our thoughts and emotions we may be experiencing in order to self-regulate. Self-regulating is how we manage our thoughts and take care of ourselves. Practicing this helps ensure we are living our most authentic and happy selves."
Ali, Editorial Intern at Neolth
"Mental health is important to me because I think that it has been something that has constantly been overlooked or not prioritized, when in fact emotional well-being is one of the most important things for living a healthy life. Additionally, bringing awareness to mental health is super important to me because it is so often stigmatized, so I am very passionate about bringing awareness and education surrounding different mental health topics so that people can feel more comfortable reaching out for support rather than staying silent in fear of judgment from society. The more we take away the negative association with mental health issues, the more people will reach out and receive the support they need, and deserve."
Skyler, Outreach and Engagement Intern at Neolth
“Mental health is important to me because I want myself and the people I care about to feel the best they can. Here at college, I know we can all be really stressed out, and focusing on mental health strategies can help with that.”
Manahil, Student Ambassador at Neolth
"Mental health is important to me because it touches the essence of human well-being. It's the foundation upon which we build our lives, relationships, and futures. Just as we prioritize physical health, nurturing our mental health is equally vital for resilience, happiness, and personal growth. Let's strive for a world where mental health is universally understood, supported, and celebrated."
Willa, Student Ambassador at Neolth
"Taking care of my mental health is very important to me because I am constantly bombarded with many tasks, assignments, and responsibilities. Honestly, it gets very overwhelming for me. Which is why I firmly believe in taking rests and breaks often. One way I like to accomplish this is by surrounding myself in a peaceful nature where I can reconnect, recharge, and prioritize my mental-being."
Varsha, Student Ambassador at Neolth
"As someone who struggles with managing anxiety, I greatly value the importance of maintaining mental health. Through several personal experiences as well as from the things that I have seen people with similar issues go through , I understand the toll a bad mental state can take on one’s life. This is one of the several reasons why I choose to work on creating an environment where every individual is aware of why taking care of their mental health is important and is also provided with a safe space for them to raise their difficulties as well.
Personally , mental health is important to me because it determines everything else in my life. My mental state influences my physical health, life satisfaction . motivation and so forth. Having a good state of mind makes me work better towards living life at the fullest and doing things I love."
Isabella, Content Creation Intern at Neolth
"Mental health is important to me because it’s the center of each of our worlds- it’s what makes us human. If we don’t care for it, nurture it, and give ourselves some patience to grow and learn about our mental health, we can never have a good understanding of who we are and what makes us unique. We each have individual needs and wants when it comes to caring for our mental health, we just have to give it the understanding and love it needs to thrive."
